What led us to today's situation
STATEMENT ISSUED REGARDING THE PHI DELTA THETA CHAPTER AT DRAKE UNIVERSITY--November 16, 2009
The General Council of Phi Delta Theta voted to suspend the charter of the Iowa Delta Chapter at Drake University on November 13, 2009. This action was taken as a result of violations of the risk management policies including alcohol and hazing. The General Council regrets the need to take this most serious form of action. However, it is felt the best way to ensure a bright future on the Drake University campus is to suspend the charter until a time when Phi Delta Theta can return to campus.
Drake University officials were able to offer immediate space in campus dormitories for the men currently living in the fraternity house. Local fraternity alumni are working to secure the chapter house and remove chapter memorabilia for safe keeping. As the General Council's action is a suspension of the charter, the opportunity exists in future years for the charter to be re-granted to a new group of members.
Questions regarding this information should be forwarded to Tim Coonan, local alumni representative.
Yours in the Bond,
Tim Coonan
